While we make look at asylums today as barbaric, they were actually a much better option for people deemed to be "lunatics" (how aful) at least in their inception. Before this time people's families would lock them in basements, chain them to walls, and deprive them of basic humanity. Unfortunately, due to lack of funding and overcrowding and some just plain awful practices from doctors at the time, many of the patients at asylums suffered the same types of atrocities and sometimes even worse ones. In this episode we explore the real-life horrors that happened in these grandiose institutions, tell a few haunting stories and give you a list of movies to watch if you want to be further creeped out.
