I'm JD McGibney, and in this episode I'll be chatting with the inspiring, innovative, entrepreneurial, and incredibly humble Mr. Jeff Booth, co-founder of JamPlay.com. Today we'll be talking about depression. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, depression affects about 17 million people 18 years and older in a given year. 1.9 million children ages 3-17 are diagnosed with depression. According to the World Health Organization, depression is THE leading cause of disability worldwide. In 1998, it was reported by the American Society on Aging that for every two homicides in the United states, there were three suicides. In 2018 there were almost 50,000 deaths by suicide, according to the CDC's National Center for Health Statistics. Having its roots in a wide variety of sources from chemical imbalance, to traumatic experiences, Depression is a very prevalent mental illness in the world today. An unfortunate reality that many people face is that they are unaware that they are even dealing with depression, and therefore do not receive the help that they may need.
